Naw, fuck that.

You're going over the top on this one. So they made a shitty generic record, but it had a few moments that were passable. Weezer has been doing this for awhile now.

What makes this album different? Rivers still wants to write killer pop songs. He's stuck on that trip. Don't you think it's likely he'll continue to throw shit against the wall until something sticks? What makes you think he isn't capable of coming up with anything good in the future?

He still knows how to come with songs like "Pork and Beans", "Keep Fishin'" and "Perfect Situation". There's still some life left in him.

[...] The larger cultural impact point here, of course, is one that’s been with us since the twinned births of recorded music and the moving picture. Music is just so goddamn big, too big and too wild to be adequately conveyed by conventional photography, too profoundly stimulative of the imagination to constrain with realism. And so animated cartoons have been a congenial fit with music, from the earliest Silly Symphonies to Fantasia and Yellow Submarine to a-ha; the medium allows for levels of abstraction, expression, and iconography unavailable to conventional representational film, bringing the emotional affect of the song front and center. Figures can stretch, transform, levitate, burst into flame, or crumble to fragments as the feelings of the moment demand. And, of course, cartoons make a perfect vehicle for the larger-than-life personas that musicians like to project — whether we’re talking stylized doppelgangers, or an out-and-out alter ego.
Martha,

Don't get me wrong. The "theory" is a crock -- but a sad, telling crock. I like how conspiracy theories get at the emotional truth of a situation while being often wholly un-factual. Kurt is sadly very dead.

Can we just stop and say that as much as we all love Kurt, we can not deny the fact that he, like many others, comited suicide. It is no question, unless he 'forgot' how much drugs he was putting into his body. Rivers is great and everything, but he is not Cobain. Kurt was great, and probably one of Americas music legands, and he helped inspire a whole Seattle Grunge movement, however, he was a little crazy, and did drugs becasue of it, and ultimatly, his mind is what killed him. Not to burst the bubble, but really, we can not bring back those who are gone, even if we do make up odd theorys.

Dave,

The Breeders albums are great, as is that Amps record. I know a lot of people who love the Breeders, but outside of that really intense Kim Deal fan base, a lot of people just don't care too much. They're a very niche, culty band.

Being an indie nerd, I am surprised I never got into the Breeders much. However,I loved their side project The Amps. That was one cool record.
